Boat Tours in Santorini

Volcano Tours

Full-Day Caldera Cruise: Volcano, Hot Springs, Therasia and Sunset at Oia (off board)

Sail across Santorini’s beautiful ‘caldera’ (flooded crater) and visit the islands of Nea Kameni and Thirasia on this 6-hour cruise. Board a sightseeing boat from the old port, and admire Santorini’s cliffs and as you cruise to Nea Kameni. Enjoy free time to walk around its volcanic crater, swim in the warm springs, and visit Thirasia island. Explore and have lunch here at leisure before cruising back to Santorini. Then explore Oia village and experience unique sunset.

The excursion will start from the main port of Santorini Athinios port. The bus will pick you up from the nearest pick up point close to your location. Next you will headed to the Athinios port, where one of our guide will guide you in one of our boats. The tour will start at 10:15.

Our first destination will be the famous volcano of Santorini! After 20 minutes sailing, we will reach Nea Kameni’s jetty. Should you are interested to be guided at the volcano, you should pay 2.5euro/ per person as an entrance fee. Then, you will walk to the volcano’s ridge with your guide and he is going to explain you everything about the history and the geology of the volcano. You will stay at the volcanic island for 1.5hr and in the end you will embark again to our boat for the next stop.

Hot Springs

Our next stop will be the island of Palea Kameni where the famous hot springs are located on the west side. A place that is really popular for its thermal waters. We will stop there for 30min at a distance of 30 meters from the shallow waters of Agios Nicholaos’ beach. The waters are mixed with mud that they are full of sulfur, iron and other metals coming from the volcano and they are very good for the skin, rheumatism, arthritis and other physical pains. Important Note : In order to reach Agios Nicholaos’ beach is essential to swim extremely well.

Next stop is the island of Thirassia. Thirassia is a miniature of what Santorini used to be several years ago. Today is a virgin island, still untouched by tourism and modern life style. The island of Thirassia is only 9 sq. km in size and has approximately 300 permanent inhabitants. We will stay there for 2 hours, so as to explore this picturesque and traditional village as well as to taste the authentic Santorinian cuisine. Should you wish, you can also walk at the main village of Manolas, which is the capital of Thirassia. The view over Santorini is spectacular from there.

Sunset in Oia off board

After Therasia island, you will go back to Athinios port where our bus will take you to Oia, the most beautiful village of Santorini. Here you will have the chance to explore unique alleys, discover its rich market as well as enjoy fantastic views and the most breathtaking sunset of your life! After the sunset, you should head for the spot that our buses will be waiting you to take you back to your places.

Very nice

The boat was nice and the guide was awesome. We first went to the Volcano (bring walking shoes as it is a climb and also water). After that we went to the hot springs. And the other island where are are free to do whatever for 2h. It was very nice. A great experience!

Fulfilled day

If you wanna see a lot of things within a day it is a good way to do so. The only unpleasant thing was that although “the numbers are limited “ because of Covid it still felt pretty overcrowded on the both with people ignoring the lines showing you where not to sit . The hike to Volcano was a bit difficult but manageable. The best part was swimming in the hot springs which I wish would have been much longer ! Before all the people get into water you have maybe 20 mins to do so or that is how it felt. Also the pick up from Oia by bus is a mess and you might struggle to find your mini bus to drive you back without asking all the drivers. We were not even on the list although it was clearly our bus but managed to get on after providing all the information.

A mixed experience

Santorini view themselves were wonderful, so helpful by e-mail, responding to all communication straight away, even early in the morning, Marios was so helpful and prompt in all communication. However, the tour is run by Caldera boats. In the morning for the pick up the driver was reluctant to take us as we had not been able to print our tickets (the tour company had said this was okay and they would be printed for us). If you can print your tickets it will make you life a lot easier. We were picked up in a nice air conditioned mini bus. We had a bit of a moment when the driver stalled the bus and couldn’t start it again, so bump started it going backwards down a hill! When we arrived at the port they had printed our tickets and we were directed to a boat. For the entire boat tour everything was excellent. The tour guide was brilliant and really informative and friendly, we really enjoyed visiting the volcano, the hot springs and the island. The views from the boat were brilliant. All Instructions were clear. I would highly recommend this part of the tour. When we arrived back at the port we were put on a big coach to Oia. We then had 3 hours to wait for the sunset, we were completely exhausted having been picked up at 8.45am in the morning and Oia was so crowded. After the sunset we returned to get our transfer and were told to get on a Kamari tours bus. The tour guide promptly threw us off saying this is a private tour bus. We went back and asked again. Apparently the person from Caldera boats had done a deal with the driver from Kamari tours to take us, so we were let back on bus but the tour guide was unhappy about this and glared at us the entire time! So honestly a very mixed experience. I would definitely do the tour again without the Oia section. It was just too much at the end of a long, long day. If we had been on the shorter tour we would have been taken home when we arrived back at the port and that would have been perfect. Perhaps at other times of the year you would not have to wait so long for the sunset. Caldera boats create a good experience but their organisation is a little chaotic!
