Santorini Volcano and Hot Springs Boat Tour

The tour departs daily from the old port of Fira, at 11:00 in the morning or at 14:15. After only 15 minutes by boat, we'll be arriving at the volcano bay, where we'll be docking for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, during which, if you want, you can follow the path to the top where active craters are. Next we'll be moving to the island of Palea Kameni for the hot springs, the famous mud baths, which were formed as result of volcanic eruptions. In the small bay of Agios Nikolaos the water temperature ranges from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, as it mixes continuously with the normal sea currents. The boat will be staying here about 30 minutes to allow you a healthy bath. After the bath, you will return to the old port of Fira.

Departure

The excursion starts from the picturesque old port of Santorini. This port is only accessible by cable car which is the most common way as it takes only 3 minutes to go down, 587 steps on foot or for those who love the adventure, the local donkeys is the ideal choice to reach it. Important note : You should pay 6€ more per way either for the cable car ticket or to ride one of the donkeys. Gialos, the Old Port, lies below Fira, nestled at the foot of a rocky cliff. You will be surprised with the steep slopes of the Caldera and in the end the tiny port will appear under these huge rocks and the cave houses that seem to dangle on the cliff. There the guides of your excursion will be waiting for you, to give you all the important information and to orientate you on the boat. For more information or clarifications, don’t hesitate to visit our travel agency which is located down at the port.

Volcano

Our first destination will be the famous volcano of Santorini! After 20 minutes sailing, we will reach Nea Kameni’s jetty. Should you are interested to be guided at the volcano, you should pay 2.5euro/ per person as an entrance fee. Then, you will walk to the volcano’s ridge with your guide and he is going to explain you everything about the history and the geology of the volcano. You will stay at the volcanic island for 1.5hr and in the end you will embark again to our boat for the next stop.

Hot Springs

Our next stop will be the island of Palea Kameni where the famous hot springs are located on the west side. A place that is really popular for its thermal waters. We will stop there for 30min at a distance of 30 meters from the shallow waters of Agios Nicholaos’ beach. The waters are mixed with mud that they are full of sulfur, iron and other metals coming from the volcano and they are very good for the skin, rheumatism, arthritis and other physical pains. Important Note : In order to reach Agios Nicholaos’ beach is essential to swim extremely well.

Return

After departing from your last destination, the tour will be finished at the old port of Fira. After your disembarkation, you should choose one of the available ways to go back to Fira town. Please note that you will have to pay again the additional cost for your transport back to Fira town.

Nice but rushed

The hot springs were nice once you get there but you have to swim through ice cold water first and by the time you swim over it’s time to come back again as you only get 30 minutes there. I was quite disappointed they didn’t offer swimming noodles or life jackets as it was quite a long swim but I noticed that other tour boats did offer this. We then went to the volcano which was a 20 minute walk up and again this was very rushed as we only had 10 minutes to walk around and take pictures. Overall it was a nice trip but felt too rushed and I would have liked to spend longer at the actual locations.

Thank you very much for your feedback! We value every opinion and use them to make our tours better. The day that you've joined the tour (May 10), the weather was cooler as it is normally early May. It's getting warmer the next days. We provide swimming noodles to everyone upon request to our friendly and highly experienced crew. We understand that you needed more time to enjoy the tour. The Volcano and Hot Springs Boat Tour is a 3-hour tour. We invite you to join our 6h "Sunset Sailing Tour to Volcano and Hot Springs with Dinner". Again, we thank you for your feedback!

Cold swim

Hike to the volcano was very awesome. The boats are in amazing shape. if you're a sailor you can appreciate the antique wood of all the boats. The swim to the hot springs was a little less than I expected.hot springs was not too warm and the swim back to the boat was very cold

Thank you for your kind words! About the water temperature, unfortunately these days the weather was cooler than usual. We're very glad that you've enjoyed our tour!

Nice views

Hiking the volcano was nice with great views. The stop at the hot springs was not so great. You had to hurry up and swim to the area, which wasn't very hot, had about 10 minutes to be there, then had to hurry and swim back to the boat.

Totally worth it!!!

If you have a couple of hours to spare this is a must do with this company. I cant say anything bad about our experience. DO REMEMBER to print out your tickets and bring them with you. Other than that, enjoy the hike, the boat ride and the swim to the hot springs. I am not a great swimmer but the water made me so buoyant it was no problem. Also, they have swim noodles if you really need them

As advertised

The description of the tour is accurate. it is a no frills, inexpensive tour to give you a chance to see the volcano caldera and hot springs. you have 1.5 hours at the caledra which is just enough time to walk up to the site of the eruption 3500 years ago and get back to the boat. they provide you with some guidance and orientation. the day we went it was raining quite heavily so we did not stop at the hot springs. overall, an inexpensive way to see the historic caldera.

Money well spent

, Wonderful experience! A beautiful way to spend the day. It's a simple and amazing way to learn more about the history of the land. The hot spring weren't hot they were just warm probably due to the very cold sea. But still we were able to jump in and enjoy it.

Awesome Time!

A great experience! Well organized! A must do..... if it’s warm outside, definitely wear your bathing suit. Too cold for us, but it looked like a lot of fun if you wanted to take a swim! Was an awesome experience! Strongly recommended. Remember to wear sturdy shoes though as the climb on the caldera is a good hike to get to the top.

One of the best Boat tours

A great experience!, Well organized!, Our guide was awesome! The port is quiet a walk from the top of the hill. You've 3 options, walk, donkey ride and cable car. The boat tour takes you to the volcanic mountain, you've to pay 2.5 euros per person to get on the mountain. It's worth it.... we walked all the way to the top of the crater... this is an active volcano site and there are numerous hot air spouts (sulfur) all around the mountain. The view from the top of the mountain is priceless...you can see all the villages across the island. The tour then takes you around the mountain to a spot where you can dive into the water and swim to the hot water springs... Overall it was a great tour and worth the 3 hours.

Less of a tour and more transportation

This was a wonderful experience but it's not a tour. You board a boat to the volcano and self-tour the island on your own with no direction other than to be back by a certain time. From there, you travel (again with no direction) to the hot springs, jump off the boat and swim a short distance for about 5-10 minutes before being told to return to the boat and heading back to the port. At no point were any announcements or anything resembling a tour guide's info given. Transportation is a great value for the price but this is definitely just transportation, not a tour.

Ideal ride to volcano

A great experience! We went mid-November. Weather was great and the boat was wooden, not too crowded and attractive. Great view of caldera and then volcano. Given enough time to casually follow the path from the top of the volcano and back. They put fun music on as we went around the corner to where some people got out and swam, then took boat back around last part of volcano to Fira port. You can buy a drink and crisps on board, and there is a small top deck next to the driver too. Great value, just what we wanted.

Something to do

Okay for value. Went on a boat, water for 5 min (noodles offered), and walked the volcano. The port was nice. Nothing to write home about but something to do.

Santorini Volcano & Hot Springs Boat Tour

This was a good experience... Fun to travel on one of the wooden Greek vessels... If the wind is up it can get a little dicey but you feel like it's an adventure... This is a trip for those who don't want to spend all day (it is only about 2 - 2 1/2 hours)... You do get off the boat twice (once at the volcano and also at the hot springs)... The second stop allows for those who want to jump in the water and swim over to the shallows where the warm water from the springs is located... Enjoyed the tour

Great value tour on a lovely boat

This was a superb tour (way cheaper than the same tour from our cruise ship) with a well maintained boat, helpful guide and decent sized group. The tour gets you to the top of the Nearest Kameni volcano, then allows you to swim in the springs off Paleo Kameni (the old, dormant stack of the volcano). Definitely recommended, would do again when we are on Santorini. , Well organized!

Recommended with both hands!

Fantastic! Just fantastic! Especially the swimming to hot springs. To new travellers - if you are not so good in swimming, they will give you a swimming stick - with it you can not drown. You can jump to water right from the ship or you can walk down a staircase. There's WC on the ship, where you can change wet swimming suit. Nea-Kameni. There you have to pay ecological fee to go and see the caldera and the island. Given time is enough for a good walk and taking photos. The trip is very safe. Everyone left their belongings while swimming. Nothing happened to them. And one more thing. You have to get down from Tira to the Old port to catch the ship. You can walk 300 steps down, but this is very difficult, because the road is cobbled. If you walk, don't take suit-cases with you! Backpack is OK. You can also ride a donkey for 5 euro, but pay attention, that donkeys go slowly! Probably 40 min to the port. Just like on your feet. The best choice for tired travellers with luggage is cable car. It costs 6 euro, and in 5 min you are down in the port! That's it. Have a good trip! A great experience!

Great little adventure

Enjoyed the 3 hour volcano trip along with the hot spring tour. The tour was fun and insightful, the volcano trek can be daunting but it is worth the views and the dip in the hot spring was definitely worth it. , A great experience!

GREAT trip!!

A great trip, the volcano was amazing and enough time to explore! The hot springs i would say that even if you aren't a strong swimmer it isn't far until it is shallow and they offer you a foam finger to help - my partner didn't want to go in due to it saying you needed to be a good swimmer. Definitely a MUST DO on your holiday! , A great experience!, Excellent!, Well organized!, Wonderful experience!, A must do., Our guide was awesome!

Very good tour

We turned the schedule around because there were too many boats on the volcano. So we went first to swim in hot springs and it was really a great time. We jumped from the boat into the sea and swimmed 10 minutes to the springs. You can walk there because it is low water and then we swimmed back to the ship. There was enough time. Then we went to the volcano, you pay extra 2.5€ per person there and then you walk 20 minutes up to the top. You can feel the heat comming out from the ground. You walk around there a little and then go by ship again back to the port., Well organized!

Nice excursion on a beautiful boat

I was almost 40 (!) years ago on New Kameni and was very impressed by the "moon"look of the small island and saw more fumes/vapor coming out of the ground. Of course, we had more time to explore, since we were just a few tourists at the time. In July 2018, times have changed, the tourist crowd is everywhere! The swim in the Hot Springs was very nice, though...
