Hop on an amazing bus tour around the island and jump at the opportunity to explore the most characteristic attractions and places of Santorini in one day! You will meander around its picturesque settlements where you’ll come across the typical cave houses, traditional whitewashed buildings, blue-domed churches, Venetian castles, and quaint alleys.

You will have the chance to walk through the well-preserved Akrotiri Excavations and marvel at the archaeological findings up close, before visiting the traditional village of Emporio and wandering around its paths. Of course, you’ll also spend time at the must-see volcanic beaches of the island. You can swim and relax at the iconic Black Sand Beach of Perissa and then have lunch at a traditional tavern in the coastal village, where you can savor local specialties. Next, a stop at Profitis Ilias Mountain, the highest peak of Santorini, will generously offer you stunning views of the whole island.

The experience wouldn’t be complete without a wine tasting in one of the numerous wineries on the island. Santorini is popular for its renowned wine varieties, which owe their quality to the rich volcanic soil, so it is an activity that shouldn’t be missed! The tour will finish with the best sunset view in the picturesque village of Oia!

Notes
  • Tour starts at 10:30 am from Fira, and finishes after sunset.
Excavations of Akrotiri

The prehistoric settlement in Akrotiri is an archaeological site of great importance as it is considered a significant discovery. The fact that the site managed to stay well-preserved after the several volcanic eruptions that occurred on the island is itself extraordinary and it makes the place totally worth exploring up close.

Emporio Village

Emporio is the largest settlement of Santorini, a peaceful traditional village that boasts edifices of Cycladic architecture, old churches, wonderful windmills, and one of the five fortified castles on the island. Walk around its narrow alleys that resemble a labyrinth and admire cave houses, tiny balconies, adorable yards, and domes. (40 minutes)

Perissa Beach

Perissa is a cosmopolitan beach resort that constitutes a part of the lengthy Black Sand Beach. Here you’ll have plenty of time to relax by the sea and enjoy this extraordinary beach. You can swim in refreshing crystal clear waters and have a go at a variety of watersports. The seaside Perissa village has an abundance of shops, cafes, beach bars, and traditional restaurants where you can taste the local cuisine. ( 2.5 hours)

Profitis Ilias Mountain

Being the highest point of the island, Profitis Ilias Mountain offers sublime panoramic views in every direction. Gaze at vast vineyards and plains, the coastline of Santorini as well as the spectacular volcano in the Aegean Sea and the nearby islands. From this spot, you can take fantastic photos of the entire island and relish it from a totally different point of view. (20 minutes)

Santorini Winery

A visit to one of Santorini’s wineries is a must. It includes wine tasting in a private area. Learn about the process and history of winemaking in Santorini. Get to try three of the best local varieties and indulge in a fine wine-tasting experience in spectacular surroundings.

Oia ‒ Sunset

The gem of the island is the picturesque Oia village which is known for its incomparable sunset and admirable architecture. Pastel-colored houses, blue-domed churches, wondrous cafes, and restaurants are built on the staggering caldera cliffs and create an idyllic setting. The world-famous sunset, which can be witnessed from the debris of the Venetian castle, highlights the romantic atmosphere.

Good overview of Santorini

The transportation felt very disorganised at the beginning. We were picked up from Oia by a minibus, but the meeting place near the bus station was quite difficult to find (despite the pinpoint on the map), and we had to ask a waiter in a cafe for directions. It was very unclear where to wait at this initial pick up point too, and the person working in the NST office here seemed vague about who/ if anyone was picking us up. However, the minibus did arrive and we were taken via a few other ‘pick ups’ at various places to an NST travel stop somewhere else on the Island, to meet the main tour bus. However, there was quite a long delay and several other tour buses came and went with people getting on/off. It all felt disorganised, unclear and a little chaotic. After a wait of about 20/25 minutes stood by the road/car park our tour bus finally arrived- although we were still unclear if it was ours. However, the tour guide on the bus was very organised, had a list and checked all the names of those waiting to ensure we got on the right bus (her bus) or the other bus/tour that also arrived. It would have been useful if on our booking voucher we had a coach tour number in the window of the coach to look out for. Once on the bus the rest of the day went smoothly, and it was made very clear to us by our excellent and informative guide where to meet the bus, and at what time, when we stopped at the different locations. We gained a lot of interesting information and facts about Santorini on this trip from our brilliant English tour guide- thank you. This trip is a good way to overview the Island in a day. The stop at Akrotiri was very interesting, and we had an archaeologist guide to talk us and walk us around the site. The stop at the high viewpoint at the Monastry of Profitis Ilias gave a fantastic vista of the Island, but was far too short to enable us to actually walk up to the monastery and back as well as take photos. A 30 -40 minute stop here would have been appreciated. The walk through Emporio with our guide (so we did not get lost) was good and very picturesque with small alleyways and staircases etc. Our lunch stop (about 3pm) at Perissa beach was nice, but we would have preferred a shorter stop here and longer at Profitis Ilias. Really would have loved to have seen Pyrgos instead of going to Oia (where we were staying), with Oia sunset maybe being a separate trip on its own, as I feel people not staying in Oia would want longer in Oia than the trip allowed anyway. I think overall this is a good taster of the different areas of the Island of Santorini in a day, and our guide was excellent so we did learn a lot- thank you to her. Our coach driver was also good and careful – we felt safe.
