It was still night at the harbor of Santorini, Athinios, when we hastily left the ship that had brought us here from Piraeus behind us, and we started ascending the winding turns of the road leading to Fira, the capital of the island.
A motorcycle, heavy load, sharp turns, few lampposts at night... So what? What mattered was that we were (again) in Santorini. A few hours later, the night gave its place to the day and the captivating island welcomed us in the best possible way.
The images are magical, the natural beauty is unparalleled, while the houses are completely whitewashed and quaint, with colorful doors and windows and, above all, a view that takes your breath away!
We walked in Fira, Firostefani and Imerovigli, the traditional villages that overlook the impressive Caldera, the oceanic basin created by a series of volcanic eruptions.
We went through Megalochori, Pyrgos, Emporio, Messaria, Vothonas, Karterados and Vourvoulos villages that are excellent examples of traditional architecture, completely harmonized with the natural environment.
We admired the archeological site of Akrotiri.
We swam in Perivolos, Perissa and Kamari beaches.
We enjoyed the magical sunset in the renowned village of Oia, with its picturesque harbor, Ammoudi.
We tasted the famous wines of Santorini at the Santo winery, in the area of Pyrgos.
We listened to the famous DJ David Morales playing some incredible music at “Jojo Club”, in Perivolos.
We tasted great coffee in Fira, Oia, Ammoudi, at “Kafenedaki tou Emporiou”, and also ouzo in Megalochori.
We ate at “Kritikos”, near Messaria, and at “Rastoni” in Fira.
We felt some strong emotions and bowed down before the unique beauty of the island of Santorini!
