Avis Beach is the south extension of the lengthy Monolithos Beach located on the east part of the island, near the National Airport. It is named after the Avis Tomato Factory that used to produce the typical product of Santorini. It is also called Exo Gonia from the close-by village of Exo Gonia. The presence of the volcano is evident on the beach that is covered in small volcanic pebbles and black sand, like the majority of the beaches in Santorini. Its waters are deep and clear.
This quiet, not crowded beach is partly organized with few sun loungers and straw umbrellas and in close distance you can find some restaurants, snack bars and a mini market. There are many trees following the length of the beach that create a nice and peaceful atmosphere.
Avis Beach is not among the famous beaches of Santorini but the fact that it is not sheltered makes it windy enough for wind-based water sports. Therefore it is a popular spot for windsurfing lovers and ideal for an exciting kite surfing experience.
