This five-hour tour involves a fun trip to two of the most famous local wineries in Santorini and watching the sunset in Oia. These are perhaps the best things to do after admiring the beauty of the famous village of Oia.
At the wineries, you’ll get to enjoy up to 9 samples of the local volcanic wines. Your tour will start with a visit to Hatzidakis Winery, nestled in a beautiful location in Pyrgos village, where you will have the chance to wander around the vast vineyards as well as the old cellars and get insights into wine production. The vineyard was abandoned after the significant earthquake in 1956 but was successfully re-cultivated some years later, and a small underground winery was created, a ''Kanava'' as the locals call the wineries. You can taste four of the most exceptional wines here, accompanied by small local bites, before heading towards Mesa Gonia for exploring the popular wine museum and getting a glimpse into the life of an ancient winemaker.
Located in a cave, this extraordinary 300-meter museum stands eight meters under the ground. Its construction is a result of 21 years of hard work and effort by the Koutsogiannopoulos Family. At the museum, you’ll learn about the different stages in the winemaking process as well as the types of machinery and equipment used to make wine. There, you’ll be invited to take a few sips of the family’s volcanic wines. Its unique flavor is sure to refresh your taste buds.
After the wine-tasting experience, you’ll move toward Oia and the Sun Spirit Bar. This bar is one of the best spots for watching the Oia sunset. You’ll have your seats reserved at the bar to ensure that you enjoy the sight of the sun going down to the fullest while sipping on some wine.
Throughout the Santorini Wine Tour, a local guide will accompany you and tell some interesting details about the places you visit. They will pick you up from your hotel or a nearby pickup point when the tour starts and drop you there after the tour.
The guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the tour and provided insightful information about the history of the vineyards and the wine production. The 2 vineyards visited were beautiful, one had an interesting museum with a super wine choice and the other a tour of the wine cellar and slightly different wines to sample. There was no pressure to buy but both vineyards provided the option at a price cheaper than most supermarkets around. The trip finished in Oia at the Sunrise cocktail bar and a wonderful sunset view. Overall a great experience and I highly recommended.
Hello, my husband John and I had a wonderful time on the Santorini Wine Tour! Our guide, Yannis (spelling?), was fabulous! He was funny and engaging, and he shared so many interesting facts about the area and the wines with us. He made everyone feel right at home throughout the tour. The time flew by! I would highly recommend this tour to others! Mary Christian
